This
is actually two tours in one. The first two days take you
through the beauty of the Šumava Nature Park, an area virtually
untouched
for over 40 years. The Communists used
the nearby mountains and sensitive proximity to the German
and Austrian border to cocoon the Šumava region away
from prying eyes. It is now a playground for mountain bikers,
hikers, sailors...and bike tourers. Starting high,
at the headwaters
of the Vltava River, it is also perfect for gentle cycling
as you ride down a wide river valley through some of
the
oldest untouched forests in Central Europe before heading
north into the towns Bohemia is best known for: Český
Krumlov, Tábor, Třeboň, and Jindřichův Hradec, where the
second
half of the tour takes place. Castles, monasteries, ancient
fortresses and old town squares are on offer as you get
a real understanding of the Czech lands. The tour is rich
in Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque architecture while
the countryside
is a patchwork of villages surrounded by barley
and wheat fields.

We've combined some of the most distinctive
architectural styles found in the Czech Republic in this
tour with what we consider the best little towns in Southern
Bohemia. Historically important and rich in culture, most
of the towns you stay in will be listed UNESCO World Heritage
sites. It's easy cycling along rivers, and undulating barley
fields and forests that surround the tiny villages. Some
days you'll be in the midst of tree shaded lanes in a unique
pond landscape, others will find you along ridges skirting
a valley.

A classic bicycle tour that combines the
best of Southern Bohemia with the delights of the Danube
River.
Fortress towns and monasteries, Gothic castles and the
medieval jewel of Český Krumlov await. Then it's over the
Austrian border
to the
Danube River and easy cycling. Grand views around each
bend, 16th century, picture-postcard villages and dramatic
hill-top castle ruins make this a favourite.

This fabulous ten day ride never fails to impress. We link the two great cities
of Prague and Vienna by taking you through the heart of
Southern Bohemia and Southern Moravia, skirting the Austrian
border. Starting in Middle Bohemia, you cycle through tiny
villages, staying in 3-4 star accommodation in some of
the most beautiful fairytale towns
in Central Europe. Cycling into Southern Moravia, you ride
through protected biospheres, national parks and Greenways,
skirting old Iron Curtain outposts and Cold War pillboxes
along the way. Then a short transit delivers
you into the fabled Danube River valley of Austria where
you will cycle above and along the great river. Your final
day will be spent cycling through the gorgeous and historic,
1000 year-old wine-producing region of the Wachau.
