    Hello all,
I’m not sure if this is correct place to post my question … if not I really am sorry.
To make a long story short …. I can’t find my birth certificate. Not sure when I lost it (and I may yet find it), but while packing other documents I noticed it’s absence. I don’t really “need” it atm but “just in case” I believe I should have a copy.
So my question is: What would be the proper way of obtaining notarized copy, without having to travel to my birth city?
    Thanks in advance.

Contact the county administration building in the County in which you were born. They should be able to email or fax you a form. You fill it out, providing copied proof of id send in the papers with a small fee and they will send it in the mail. At least that's the way it works in Michigan.

That might not work if you were born in a city like Prague. Is there a Czech consulate anywhere near you?

Thank you so much for the ideas, I’m definitely giving it a try.
So far I found the official website of the city I was born in, but the forms from there must be presented in person at local office.
I was not able to find any useful info on “okresni mesto” website but did send an e-mail to “krajske mesto matrika” so maybe they will answer.
I’m also waiting for respond from embassy to my e-mail, as suggested it can’t hurt to ask them too.
I’m just glad it’s not a serious issue. To be honest in the twenty or so years I’ve been living in US I can not recall a single time anyone ever needed to see my birth certificate.
Once again thank you for taking the time to answer :)

    Good luck!
I hope you are able to get a copy. I don't ever remember needing mine.
Since mine is not in english, I doubt any officials here would be able to read it. :D
