    Dobrý den!

Can anyone tell me a good start on learning Czech? I meet a person from the Czech Republic this summer but he only taught me a few phrases! :( Is there a good computer program that is on the market or a website that I can learn from. I have looked through many different book, but it is hard for me to pick up on, without hearing the correct way to say it!

    Děkuji

    Hi Crystal Rose,

A good place to start is our sister site Local Lingo at http://www.locallingo.com. You will find help with pronunciation (with audio), some grammar explanations, a phrasebook with vocabulary (also with audio) and a few online exercises. And of course you are welcome to ask any Czech language questions here in the Language forum.

    Good luck with your studies!

Hello! I would just like to say that I have been learning Czech for 4 years on my own and can read it without many problems! I've been to Czech 5 times, so it is easy for me to remember how to pronounce it. But I would suggest to you that you buy a Czech/English dictionary and also the book "Teach Yourself Czech"...this is what I started out on, and I can carry on great conversations now, and write and read Czech. It is a great language! So, there is also one text book that I would suggest, it has almost everything in it that you would need, and you can also get the cassettes that go with it, for pronunciation! It's called "Chcete Mluvit Cesky?" ("do you want to speak Czech?") and you can probably search for it on the internet, but I'm not sure where. (I got mine from a friend).
I guess that's all the info I can give you....hope you are able to find something to help you!
