I know the Polish aren't exactly the best of friends with Germany. However, what do Czechs think about the German people?

While I'm asking, what do Czechs think about Poland?

That coupled with the fact that they actually started handing out flyers to Germans coming across the border for sex with kids, stating that we know who you are! Really now, do you think that they would be liked after occupying?

i dont think its been in american newspapers. i usually read the bbc and the german spiegel for european news. who is offering this to tourists? some nutso? "they should all be in jail." even so most germans are more liberal about sex, myself included. while children of a certain age might be interested in sex, i doubt they have the judgment for it. most teens dont either!

It seems strange that someone with the nickname "Retired dictator" is posting this topic, considering the German occupation of Czechia during WW2.

Radio Prague has posted a short, but related article on their site today, Memories of World War II in the Czech Lands: the expulsion of Sudeten Germans:

Without making any statement about the feelings of Czechs in general. . . I get a friendlier response if I ask for directions in Prague in English than if I ask in German -- even though many Czechs speak German better.

really, how do you expect them to respond? all warm and gushy? that aint gonna happen. at least not for years!
but they might be like the norwegians who also dont like germans. i went there hitchhiking years ago and they were absolutely delightful.and very hospitable. invited us off the street.

I totally agree with you there. Norwegians are just a fantastic bunch of people, I went there only last year. Totally different to those elsewhere in Europe, they are really friendly, open people.

I'm living in Ústí nad Labem short time ago, all I can tell is that most of people with who i was speaking and who lived it, hate, or at least feel disgusted when we are speaking about Germany. I've listened about rapes, violence (look at the context, is more than obvious)... my granny-in-law was suffering their behaviour. But... I dont know... I didint live it. I dont know nothing at all (what ever it is in english  )... so... this is what I've heard here... simply is hard to forget. In my country we hate every single militar walking in the streets. Our minds understand that they are not all the same, but we simply hate them, we cannot FORGET, we cannot FORGIVE.. they killed us between 1976 and 1982, officially. I think is IMPOSSIBLE to don't put all "cats" in the same "bag", when such things happened in front of our eyes (one germany killed = all germany are same)... is "fanatic", is "obssesive", but is almost unavoidable.
How hard is to explain my feelings in a language which I cannot control at all!!

Wow, I am quite shocked reading this. It's true, Germany has a very bad history, but the Germans themself suffering because of it! Nobody would say that he is proud of Germany or being German or something - just because everybody would say he is racist. And no German likes do say "I am from Germany". For example me, I prefer to say "I am from Berlin". And it's hard that we have this problem just because of our history - I have nothing to do with it! And I don't want to! I was just born there, in a country which, like every country, has its strength and weakness. And we are all just human beings and no pedophile childf**kers (by the way: to talk about people fucking children and go to the topic "when I had my first sex" seems to be quite strange to me). So don't be so hard at us.

On the other hand, I of course understand your point of view - when I read about the history of Czech Republik, I was also quite shocked: germany plays a big role and we, in Germany, don't know nothing at all of it. Well, ok, 2nd WW is a big theme in school and the expelling of Germans from Czech Republik was mentioned, but that's all - and is not the fault of pupils or teachers.
And, of course it's true, that some German assholes cross the boarder just to have cheap sex with "cheap" woman. Mexicos problem with the USA is similiar, but worse. lot's worse.

    Dear Sylvia>
I understand your point and share it, because I, argentinean, have the same trouble when they say: "You are from the country where they have hidden nazis" (not sure about the spelling)... But as i wrote before--- every person generalises... it means... teenagers write "signs" on their heads: "punk" "disco" and thinks that everybody who "is" punk behaves in some way, and everybody who says "disco" behaves in other specific way. The same happens whit adult people... they just say, i dont know, for example: "northamericans are this, cubans are that"... you can't escape... the history of a country marks its people forever...
I just think, that anyone who would treat you different just because you are german, not giving a chance to know you... that person is not worth it at all. You ahve some stigma by being german, but it doesn't mean you fit with it. Anyone who doesn't let you proove it, is not worth it.
BTW... i give the Spanish people a chance to proove me they are not the same, but... due to its history with "America", i don't trust them all...
This is called: "prejudice"... and it's the worst of all human defects.
And never, ever, ever... try to minimize your countrie's history with some other countrie's history...i am speaking about that what you've written about mexicans and USA... it is the same as saying: "Ok, i have killed two babies, but Karel killed 3, that is worse"... no way.

Ok. So let's go on ;-)

Hm. Of course, stereotypes. I am aware, that I also have some prejudices, it's normal, and often there is some truth in, I think. But the German = racist-thing is just not true at all (of course, like in other countries, to, we have some young people and also some old people who... Well, I don't know what's their problem - probably they are afraid), in the opposite: I think the German people are the people who make up their mind about this problem - you know, we have to! - and they don't understand how this could happen, because it's their history. It's always easy to say, it was in Germany, German people are that way - if you are no German. But I am and I don't wanna hear it anymore... I want just live as free as I can be and be nice and fair - doesn't matter what my history is about. So this things happened in our country. But why? Not because we are worse than other people. That's too easy.

And I didn't want to minimize our history. Really. What happened shocks me still everytime I think about, but it would should me aswell if it not has been in the country I come from. The Genocide in Ruanda shocks me aswell...
The comparison with the states and Mexico was ment in an other way. I would never say that American people are worse than Mexican people, it's just that they are in another situation and so people behave different. The situation is just more extreme than between Germany and Czech Republic. I just wanted to mention this comparison that you see, that it is not the Germans, it is just because we are human beings. We are good and bad in one, you know. That's no excuse, but it is this way, unfortunately. So... puh, this language. Anyway. Ayayay.

Waiting for the next misunderstandings ;-)
    Un Saludito
    Sylvia
