We are finalizing our trip details I had really hoped to have this all done weeks ago :( . Our final detail is to figure out if we should do the Prague Castle in Detail tour or if we should just tour it on our own. Can someone please tell me if the tour is reallyworth it, if you are able to go into places you couldn't go otherwise? Can we still go into the Castle interior, the Royal Palace, St. Vitus Cathedral, Golden Lane & St. George's Basilica without being on a tour?

We arrive in 1 week and 2 days.

    Many thanks,
    Sharon

    Sharon,
We went on our own to the castle by tram (No 22) and just wandered around with a guide book. Had a really great time. The Cathedral was fairly crowded with people on tours. We just tagged on to an English speaking tour for a few minutes. No one seemed to mind! Be sure to explore the gardens and park and walk down to Lesser Town if your time permits. Have a lovely trip and let us know how you got on. :D

Prague castle's great...you can shoot things...

Not with guns (like in some other countries), but you can have a go on a ruddy great crossbow and imagine you're shooting...well, whatever happens to have have annoyed you that day

Whatever you do, just make sure you also have a walk around the castle area when it gets dark at night. It's really something different!:)

Do it on your own. As above poster said, just take tram 22 to Prazsky Hrad or to Pohorelec (is better) and wonder around. Wandering is free, St. Vitus Cathedral is free if you just come in and look without going into further parts and if you are interested in getting into some buildings you can buy tickets there (either for everything or parts of it). No need to pay for tour guide etc. just find some map of the Castle area (actually get Prague map as well).

    tsk tsk...... principianti :p

in front of the cathedral there's an info point..... queue and buy the whole day validity ticket for the fee entry sites of Prague castle (is that building really a castle??? :p ) and rent the head phones with the guided tuor....
the ticket is necessary due to the fact that every single stone older then 100 years is requiring a ticket and a queue to be seen and the head phones will give you the possibility to rest and finally shot with the famous crossbow ( the standing still guards are good targets for beginners :p )

have fun and be careful... the golden lane ( where's the gold there? ) is a trap for turist...... it's full of pickpokets!!!!

nevertheless from 5 pm or 6 perhaps it's empty of turists/pickpokets and the entry is free

When I visited Saint Vitus' Cathedral, there were so many tourists that a poor Czech lady had hardly room to kneel for her devotions.
