hey all, I've been e-mailing my Czech girl and in her last name there is a little 1 in the middle. i was just wondering, is my computer messed up and not recognising what she is typing, or is it part of the czech language. if it is, could someone please explain to me how to pronouce it, Many Thanks
That's strange. This is complete Czech alphabet: a á b c č d ď e é ě f g h ch i í j k l m n ň o ó p q r ř s š t ť u ů ú v w x y ý z ž A Á B C Č D Ď E É Ě F G H CH I Í J K L M N Ň O Ó P Q R Ř S Š T Ť U Ů Ú V W X Y Ý Z Ž I think there's no little 1. Maybe it was nickname, there's all possible.
The complete Czech alphabet with pronunciation can be seen here: www.locallingo.com/czech/pronunciation
i thought it might be a nickname as well, but then its in her home address as well, right in the middle of a word! I'm Confused!
Can you paste one of the words in here, so we can decipher what this 1 is? It may be that your computer is not reading the Czech characters properly - like in this case. The 1 might be showing instead of a č or š for instance.
Dana I have had the same problem je1ti; which I assumed to be ještě so it more than likely with computer translation Regards Mike
Lazurus, the little 1 you are seeing is probably superscript 1. If you are using some sort of webmail to view your emails, then click on view->Character encoding->Central European (ISO-8859-2). You should see it displayed correctly as š (pronounced sh as in shop). Regards Phil
thank you all so much, you have been a great help, i can now send her Valentines card without needing to confuse the postman lol
