I would really like to teach English in the Czech republic, but don't really know about where or how to apply. I have just finished a teaching course in the UK. If you can help me in anyway, I would be really, really grateful. Thanks for any help. Declan
Hey Declan, You need a TEFL certificate in order to teach English abroad as I was looking into this myself at one stage. Here are some sites for you to look at that are based in Prague. http://www.caledonianschool.com/html/index.php?s1=1&s2=8 http://www.tefl.cz/ Hope that helps.
These sites are interesting. However, it appears that it is not possible to get the certification while living in another country and then moving to CR when one has obtained a job.
If you already have your TEFL certification, you can contact some language school in Prague, it shouldn't be problem. They basically just need you to have TEFL.
Hello, I would just like to say a big thank you to all, who took the time to reply to my advert. Dec. I would still like to teach English in the Czech Republic, but realise that I need to get a TSOL cert first, once again thank you.
Do you have to attend these classes to get this certificate. A czech friend of mine believes you merely have to take a test to get certified to teach english is the CR.
I understand that you have to have TEFL. However, my question is, can you get the TEFL certification through a test or must you complete the program to get it. In the states, there are things you can get if you have the knowledge just by testing to prove you have the knowledge. Then there are things you have to attend the program even if you already have the knowledge. I hope this makes sense.
You have to attend the whole course, which consist of X theoretical lessons and X teaching practice lessons where you are observed and one-on-one lessons. If you successfully complete this you get your certificate. This is just the basic certificate. You can also get higher certificate (CELTA I believe), but you need to have 1 year of teaching practice and TEFL.
