So, is the Plzen brewery tour worth the trip from Prague? I've heard that the Staropramen tour is a bust (lived three blocks from there for several months and never bothered to go), but have only gotten sparse info regarding Plzen.

Anybody been there? Thumbs up or down?

Yes, nice tour, great gift shop, and a pretty good restaurant (a bit touristy, though). Plzen itself is worth a visit - old town square, jewish synagogue (2nd largest in europe), skoda museum. bus trips are very reasonable, comfortable, and frequent (Student Agency). Enjoy!

Don't forget Budvar in Ceske Budejovice.

It is a very nice brewery with a very good tour. The restaurant is wonderful. Order the half duck :)

The store is good too, many gifts above the typical tourist type.

You will need to make a reservation.

    I have been there twice.

That could be a nice little stop on the way to or from Cesky Krumlov. I am trying to figure out how to cram in all the things I want to do and places I'd like to visit during my upcoming trip to the Mother Ship (aka Czech Republic), and CK is definitely on the "short list."

    Thanks for the recommendation! :D

Our tour guy gave us a little side-trip through Ceske Budejovice on the way to Ceske Krumlov. It looks like a very nice town.

Keep in mind, you can sleep when you get home so do all you can fit in while you are out. Vacation isn't for rest. Home is.
