    Hi Everyone,
I looked up the name KOUZEL on the internet and found a lot of references to Chech businesses, My family emigrated to the USA at the end of the 1800s and the early 1900s. Some of the family never came here but remained in the Ukraine area. Some later emigrated to Israel.
I was wondering if there is any connection between the KOUZEL's in the Ukraine and those in the Chech Republic. I am trying to locate the branch of the family that did not emigrate to the USA.
Does any one have any answers for me?
    Thanks,
    Howard[/i]

Name Kouzel doesn't look as Ukrainian name. Kouzel is very close to word kouzlo in Czech, which means magic or enchantment. Very peculiar name in Czech (no idea about Ukraina).
Also the name could be close to kozel, billy-goat in English. This name is usual in Czechia.
If the part of family moved to Israel, the family probably has Jewish roots.
But all what I wrote are just suppositions...
    Regards
    Karel :)

If you want search your ancestors, who was Jewish, you have to search in the National Archive in Prague at Milady Horakove street (1. departament of NA), where all survived Jewish registry books are gathered (Christian's parish books are preserved by regions).
You need to know site of birth grandparents (Jewish registry was finished in end of forties of 20. century) and approximately date of birth. See at my link, it could help you to know, what is neccessary for starting.
I think you will not find there connection to Ukraina.
Kozel is ordinary common name, only in Praha (1 milion inhabitants) there are 94 phone stations with name Kozel and 51 Kozlová (females) [phone directory at http://telefonniseznam.o2active.cz/index.php?fce=0]
    Good luck with searching!
    Karel :)
