Is it difficult to search ancestry records in Plzen? Most of our ancestors came from this region. We will be in Plzen in the middle of March. Does one need an appointment? Does one need to speak Czech to ask for records? Can one look up more than one family during one visit? Help is appreciated. Thanks.
Plzeň (Pilsen in German or English) has very small reading room, but very willing personal. They speak Czech, German, I think a little English, too. Appointment is desirable due place. Contact at http://www.soaplzen.cz/ . You can ask for several record books during one visit. Goog Luck. Karel
Thank you for your kind reply. I looked at the site you gave but I couldn't figure out how to request a time to use the archives--even with a Czech dictionary. Berneldes
Yes, they have no English version of site, I suppose temporarily. Try this link http://www.soaplzen.cz/komodity.php?xtem=pm to write them a mail. The mail address must be written without breaks, i.e. podatelna"at-sign"soaplzen.cz (anti-spam precaution). "Tel. badatelna" = phone directly to reading room. Karel
May I ask what villages your ancestors lived in around Plzen? I have numerous ancestral villages to the south and to the northeast of Plzen. Joe
Our ancestors did not come from Plzen but we have distant relatives that currently live here. Plzen is a very interesting city. We always enjoy our stay there. Some of the architecture is wonderful. Our ancestors came from neighboring villages--Potvorov, Sedlec, Koryta, Domazlice area, Cernikov, Kdyne, Zahorany. Try using Mapy.CZ for websites to the villages where your ancestors came from. Good luck.
