Does anyone know when the movie Once will be showing in Olomouc? I believe it's set in the Czech Republic (at the very least the actress is Czech) and I'm dying to see it.
    Thanks.

As far as I know (I haven't seen the movie, only read reviews and comments from people who have), it's set in Ireland (Dublin) and Marketa Irglova plays an immigrant. But she says a few Czech words at the very end of the movie. ;)

The movie is amazing - it's set in Dublin. Marketa plays a Czech immigrant who meets up with Glen and they slowly fall in love while making beautiful music together (in the literal sense of hte phrase!! :) ) She speaks Czech a few times throughout the movie (with her mother and child, who emigrated with her). I VERY HIGHLY recommend it!!!

Very good movie, one of the best in 2007 !
(I work in a cinema so I sea aa lot of movies...)
The irish singer ask to the girl what she think about her husband and she answer in czech, wuthout translate to him.
I think she says "I love him".
    Isn't it ?

I can highly recommend this movie, as well. I saw it in the theatre here in the US, and also received the DVD and the soundtrack for Christmas! It's excellent.

    Good taste everyone here :)

And good way to congratulate Markéta & Glen to win Academy Awards, this was really surprise for me as I call that song "Falling asleep slowly" ;-)

Oh, forgot to mention on this thread... When Glen asks Marketa if she loves her husband, she answers that she loves him (meaning Glen), but says it in Czech and refuses to translate.

I thought it was interesting that Glen and Marketa do not have names in the movie. They are never referred to by name and never introduce themselves to each other, nor introduce the other to anyone else by name. Just a little quirk that I found quite neat.

Yes, I realized it in the end, not before, there is:

    in credits.

And not only in the end, almost one whole scene is in czech, when "The Guy" is in "The Girl's" appartment with her daughter and mother.

No. SMZ is right, she sais "I love you" to Glen's question "Miluješ ho?" ("Do you love him"), so she means she loves Glen. There is special topic about this one short sentence in this forum.

Fantastic movie. Was so thrilled when Marketa and Glen won the Academy Award for Best Song. And it was very good of the producers to give Marketa some time to talk after a break when the music was started a little too too quickly and she did not get to say her "thank you's". They were just so happy - so genuine.

Hearing Marekta's accent gave us another reason to want to visit the Czech Rep. :) Many people ask me why the Czech Rep, all I can answer is I am drawn to it. I have no real reason but as long as I can remember it was where I wanted to go there. Funny how a country can call to you across an ocean.

Sorry for the rambling. Hope you all have a wonderous day. :)
