    OK! OK! Understood.

Yes. Between 1918 and 1939 Ruthenia (Podkarpatská Rus, today "Zakarpatská Ukrajina" is politically correct name in czech) was internal part of Czechoslovakia, there still are same memories of that times. In Uzhorod (capital) there are road sings towards Prague and Bratislava.

I love that map! Very informative.....I love this forum - I learn get to learn so much stuff! Too bad that my long-term memory doesn't serve me as much and I am going to remember it for about a day(my husband says I have the "gold-fish" complex where I (as the fish) see something I like and say "That's really cool" then I "make a circle in my aquarium", happen to see the same thing I saw 10 seconds ago and say:"Hey,that's really cool!!" :) )

Under the Hungarian occupation, a part of Slovakia was attached to Ruthenia, thus the shape of pre-war Slovakia is not identical (and Soviet Union annexed even this part of Slovakia).

There's also the well-known mostly children's book author and illustrator, Petr Sís....currently living in NYC, although he often threatens to move back to Prague .... :) His new book "The Wall"/"Zed" is definitely worth buying.

:) Interesting story. Famous czech writer Karel Čapek was looking for a name of character for his new play, it was supposed to be some kind of humanoid machine. His first "version" was "Labor", but it was too, ehm, not czech. His brother, Josef Čapek, came with his input - "Robot".

Where it came from - "robota" is old czech (slovak and polish) word for hard work, labour, drudgery.

I actually read that it was his brother Josef who should have gotten the credit for the "robot" word.

Good job! :) just one small note: it should read "actress" after female names instead of "actor".

Thanks for your hard work. I'm sure many will enjoy it.

one of my favorite writer, milan kundera, should be czech, isnt he?

in italy we all know about alena seredova, should be the wife of a football player, but its little bit sad thinking about players and models as "famous" person...
