Hi everybody! I am from Non-EU country and my BF is from CR. we are planning to wed in coming month. Could anyone tell me what the procedure of getting married in CR will look like, what sort of doc we need to prepare from both sides, what status i will have after marring him, will i be able to work, etc.... I would appreciate your answers, best regards.
Oh boy! Will they give you a hard time! Believe me, I've been through it and I know what I'm talking about. I'm getting married tomorrow to a Czech woman in Brazil, where I'm from (much easier than in the Czech Republic). I suggest you get married in Denmark: http://www.sonderborg.dk/default1.aspx?id=402 They are supposed to be very easy and fast. Another site that might help you is http://portal.gov.cz/wps/portal/_s.155/ ... VEK_ID=653 But I must tell you: forget about getting married next month, unless you go to Denmark. Best of luck!
Here in the U.S., we just got married in Las Vegas and then filed a paper at my Czech wife's embassy. In a month we got a paper back saying that our marriage was recognized. It was easy. We just had to have an apostated and notarized marriage license with us at the consulate. Easy as pie. Just don't stress the small stuff.... think it cost $30 too... best thing to do is to call the Czech embassy in your country and get the low down. Rather, have your boy call them. Sometimes they don't like talking to the locals, lol.
Oh yeah, you will have to file for permenant residency there to work and live there too. Just because you marry him, you aren't entitled to citizenship or a permenant residence there. I have not delt with this paperwork yet... Getting married and having that recognized was easy. Being able to work there etc... no idea yet.
Well, you ARE entitled to PR, but you do have to file for it...no one's going to come ringing your doorbell, green book in hand It used to be a pretty straightforward process; I have no idea how or if things have changed since EU accession...
Many thanks to all your replies. Few more question, how long does it take to apply for PR (permanent residency)? I dont speak any czech language, are there any Language schools in Prague? Can you find a job in Prague, just being able to speak english? Obviously i am eager to study czech and will try my best to start properly communicate with locals. Any suggestions......
