Are some masculine surnames declined as animate nouns while others are declined as adjectives are? Ex. O panu Petru Pokorném About Mr. Peter pokorný Ex. O Petru Zemanovi About Peter Zeman The top is declined like an adjective and the bottom like an animate noun. Does this have to do with the ý in the top name? Are feminine surmanes declined in both forms also or only as an adjective: ová or á ? Dobrý den, pane Vlček. Jak se máte? Hello Mr. Vlček. How are you? Why is "Vlček" not declined here as is pán to pane? Thank, Calvario
Correct form is pane Vlčku; addressing forms pane Vlček, pane Novák, pane Hájek etc. are very common in spoken Czech and they used to be typical for army slang (nominative replacing vocative - vojín Vlček instead of vojíne Vlčku).
