So sad that I've been away for almost 7 months...after Ondrej and I went to Praha in May, we busied with moving from California and are now living in Portland, Oregon. Is there anyone out there who may know of formal Czech language classes available to the small Czech community that is here? I've Lida Hola's book and of course Routledge's as well, but it's always nicer to have community in the learning. I'm welcoming myself back, for I've missed this wonderful site where so many kind people visit! Merry Christmas to all! The Sviteks, Ondrej and Jana
Hi Ondrej and Jana, Welcome back to the boards! I don't know about any classes, but if you get to know any places where Czechs go, please let us know. We'll add them to the Czechs Abroad page at http://www.myczechrepublic.com/czechs_abroad/oregon.html. Merry Christmas to you guys!
Hello Ondrej a Jana. I live near Portland, and would love to meet some Czech folks, to improve my infantile cestinu. I was in the Sellwood neighborhood and heard of a Czech family there, but don't know anyone personally.
Actually, I will be teaching a new course - beginning-level Czech conversation class at Portland Community College in Portland, Oregon. This will be a non-credit class which will meet Thursdays from 7 to 9 pm, starting June 29th and ending August 17, 2006. Here is the course description: Planning a trip to the Czech Republic? Want to get in touch with your Czech heritage? Learn basic phrases, vocabulary, & grammar for everyday use with a focus on culture & travel. Taught by a native speaker.
