How far back can one research family names in the Czech Republic? Could you find family records from the 15th, 16th, 17th, or 18th centuries in written form?

I've heard that many Czechs fled their homeland to Slovakia after the Battle of White Mountain...was wondering if there might be a way to trace Czech names in the SK back to this historic event.

    Regards to all,

Is you are not from noble kin, you can reach the second third of 17.century. The majority of registries starts at the end of Thirty Years War.
The oldiest registry is matrimonial registry of Jáchymov (Joachymsthal) from 1531, but is great exception.
