Hello there: I am going to be a visiting instructor in a Music Festival in Prague this July and just wanted to know about how women dress during the summer months of July and August, do women wear shorts at all? Thanks, -OB
Shorts, skirts, summer dresses, long or 3/4 length pants made of light fabrics (even see-through materials ), tank tops, t-shirts, sandals... You'll see very skimpy shorts on young girls, not women in general. You can look at the websites of some popular Prague clothing stores before your trip to get an idea of the current trends. Here are some examples: Elegant & trendy: Mango, Promod, Benetton Casual: H&M, C&A Teenage & young fashion: Kenvelo, New Yorker, Vero Moda
The clothes at Promod look like the same here at Target or Old Navy. http://www.target.com http://www.oldnavy.com
Funny, I would never think of those two places as possibly being in the same category as stores like Promod, which is more of a chic, boutique-style chain. But then again, I've never shopped at Target and it's been years since I shopped at Old Navy.
maybe the quality isn't as good. I don't know. But they look alike. I must say, Target & Old Navy are some of my favorite stores. My style changes quick enough that my clothes don't have to last for years and years. I go for the look and price over the quality.
The reason why I asked is because my friend told me that Czech people dress better in general, I have been in Europe before but it was some time ago and I wanted an update. How is the shopping scene in Prague and besides clothing what do they have that is unique? Thanks,-OB
Hi OB, I'm not sure I quite understand what you mean by your last question, but you can get an intro into Prague shopping on our Shopping in Prague pages. Dana
---------------------- Oliviababe, darling, you are not going to a third-world country, for crying out loud! The Czechs are known to dress well, if they can afford it. Just like here! They do care about quality and are very, very, very "westernized" ... don't worry, you'll look like a million bucks! Have a great time
True, you'll see women wearing expensive brand name clothing just like you'll see lots of people wearing cheap clothes bought for nothing at Asian outdoor markets. I have lots of clothes I brought from the U.S. and don't think twice about wearing them in Prague. No one knows and no one cares. It's up to you what you wear.
I would say, GENERALLY, that "older" women (30-35+) don't wear shorts as a rule if they're "out and about"...you find a lot of cropped pants, etc. but not shorts. And jean shorts scream "American!". Skirts, summer dresses, sleeveless tops, etc all fine. No sneakers with dresses/skirts, though, unless you're a teenager! I would say dress casual nice and you'll be fine.
