    Hi there,

I have a job offer in Prague, having visited it recently I would certainly like to live there, I live in London at the moment. My salary would be 55,000 czk per month before taxes, is this enough to live nicely on? we enjoy travelling and a comfortable lifestyle in London. I would like to know if this is enough for travel, a nice flat in Praha1, money to go out during the week for drinks etc, shop for nice clothes etc..

If someone could please help me out here I would be really appreciative. I understand this is somewhat a braod question but a simple yes/no and a cost breakdown would be great...

    Thanks again!!

    Regards,

    Erick

The average Czech salary is around 17-19 000 Kč I think, so the money you'll get should more than enough.

Just consider what your resettlement costs will be after Praha, because as you know 55 000 czk (£1375) doesn't go far towards renting or buying in London.

Let's say you make 55K before taxes, that would translate into about 35K after taxes. Basic expenses:

    15-20K for a 1 bedroom apartment in Prague 1, including gas/electricity
20x2x150=6K for eating out 20 times per month for 2 persons (conservative estimate. You will pay 300 or more per person in a real nice place or an expat place)
5K for food bought in supermarkets to cover the rest
1K unlimited public transportation for 2 persons
    ===================================
up to 32K just for the basics

that excludes travel, "nice clothes", which are more expensive the CR than in Western Europe (I'd really forget about shopping for nice clothes in Prague, it is better to import)

    you do the math.....

beer is cheap, bread is cheap, but whenever you go to a touristy, or "expat" places you pay global prices

if your income is fixed, I would think twice about Prague 1 vs. Prague 2, where there are more apartments available, transportation is great, prices are lower, including basic food, or restaurants... 1BR can cost you around 10-15K.

Thankyou very much everyone, I have informally accepted the offer and am quite excited about moving to Prague. If I may ask 2 final questions -

    1. What is the average price for 1 beer in a grocery store? - (rough)
    2. What is the average grocery bill for 2 people per week, with decent food i.e. meats, cheeses, pasta, milk, breads, just a very rough calculation would be much appreciated.

    Thanks again,

    Erick
