Hello, this is Mónica from Costa Rica, a little country in Central America. I need some help, I need to translate this sentence: " Muj brácha má prima bráchu", is this czech ??? or slovak ?? could somebody tell me what "brácha" is ?? Thanks for your help Mónica
It is a movie title, meaning "My brother has a cute (great, excelent, wonderful) brother". It is Czech, "brácha" is informal version of "bratr" - brother. More info on this movie: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0304432/ Greetings to Costa Rica
Mónica, The word "brácha" can also be a colloquialism for a [male] friend, as well for "bratr" brother, as Halef pointed out. When meant as a friend, I've usually seen this translated as "bro" (in U.S. slang) though some dictionaries translate it as "bud" or "buddy" (perhaps "pal"). The closest Spanish equivalents that I can think of are "vato" (en México) and "tío" (en España)--sorry I'm not up on my Costa Rican slang . Hence, one could translate the phrase as "My pal has a cool pal." I'll let you figure out which translation to use, since you know the context it was given in. And yes, it is Czech, not Slovak.
Thanks a lot for your explanation, in Costa Rican slang may be the nearer word is "mae", even it is not exactly like "buddy". When you come to Costa Rica, the boys/men are going to tell you "mae", and some women will do it to. It is more a word used by men to talk to men, but right now, there are a lot of women using it too. By and thanks again.
