    Hey everybody,
I'm an Irish student, 22 and I have been offered a 10 month internship in the Veterinary Research Institute in Brno. It pays 7000 month, very low wages so im wondering how expensive life is over there. ive been to Prague and found it cheap so im hoping Brno is even cheaper! How would you go about finding roomates and is there much of a social life? Id love to meet some other english speaking students or young professionals for a few drinks now and again.
Give me a shout at aoifembarron@yahoo.ie if anyone has any info.

    Thanks a mill :D

Welcome. When do you arrive here?
7000 is not much, will you be able to live in the student residence?

    Hi Durk

Thanks for the reply. I have no idea if I will be able to live in the student residence, but they have estimated that my lodging will cost 1500 CZK per month so Im wondering what could possibly be so cheap!! the Institute is on Hudcova st so I'm not sure where that is in respect to the city centre or the student residence. Any help would be very welcome.

    Hey alenastef,

Yeah, 7000 would be take home pay, with no tax or other deductions aparently. since you worked there, can you tell me what the company is like?

    Thanks! :)

Ah that's a shame. Well this is just an internship really, just for a bit of experience. I hope it's a nice place. i was offered a place in USA too but the company sounds a bit unreliable

You work in IBM doing something completely different I guess... What was your original field?

I am very versatile, ehhh
Original field was biochemistry, one day after degree ceremony I became IT specialist :p
And all this only for not having to travel too much every morning through the town (this does not imply that travelling with public transports is particularly inconvenient in Brno). Yesterday I measured the time - from center to Veterinary Institute it takes 12 minutes.

brilliant! Goodness you're a great person to have around!! A friend of mine lives in Prague at the mo and somone she knows knows a load of other irish people over there, so if i could squeeze in with them it'd be great! Do you know if there's much of a social scene for foreign students like myself?
