I have made a promise to visit the home town (Tabor) of a good friend from there who is quite ill. She used to work in sight of Jan Ziska's statue in Ziskovo namesti. I told her that I would like to walk up to Jan and tell him that "I once knew a fine woman of Tabor". My Czech is too rudimentary to know that I have the translation correct. Can anyone help me on this translation? Dekuju mnohokrat.

I think in this case, "..... dobrou ženu...." might work as well.....

where dobrá encompasses good, pleasant, honest,.... which i think is what fine means in the english context in this case.....

So lets say he uses dobrou ženu. Would he need to say "jednou jednu" or does he choose one of those? It's hard to tell because there is not a "/" between the words.

    jednou - "once"
jednu - accusative form of jedna, "one" (fem.) or (loosely) "a/an"

    Hence, use both words.

Thank you all. Though a simple request, it will be quite a meaningful moment when I face Jan Z. I want to get it right. The two Jan's (Ziska and Hus) were her childhood heroes.

Don't face Žižka, it’s too risky. He was never beaten.

I believe that he stands a little high as well but there are times you just have to get into the moment and go with the flow.
