When I was a child in the 1950s and 1960s I would tune my shortwave radio to Radio Prague to hear world news from a different perspective and to learn a bit about Czech culture. I could tell I'd found the station because I recognised the theme music. I can still hear it in my head. Can anyone tell me what this music was?

The music probably was: "Vyšehrad" (arpeggio) or "Vltava", both from the symphonic poem "Má vlast" (My fatherland), author Bedřich Smetana.

Thank you, Bohaemus; you're probably right that it's Vyšehrad. I'll try to find a recording of the entirety of 'Má Vlast' to confirm.

'Vltava' is another musical piece which I listened to endlessly in my childhood, part of my unexplained fascination with Czechia.

If it is Vysehrad, this midi will sound familiar.
