relatives names Smikal

I am looking for anyone that could help me find relatives with the last name smikal. I am really interested to know about my ancestors and when they migrated into the us. [/i]

Try find the name at Ellis Island lists of passengers (http://www.ellisisland.org/search/passSearch.asp?)
Probably the name was slightly changed during years in new world. There are no name Smikal at Czech telephone list as well as Smykal. Common is name Smýkal or Smejkal or Šmejkal.
Try also http://phone.quick.cz/index.php?fce=0. (Příjmení = surname, Tel.obvod= area, county)

I would add that in the "list of the commonest surnames"(actual to 4.1.2004) I ve found name "Šmíkal" (6 men) and "Šmíkalová" (5 women) - so if you are sure that in name are only omited diacritics, there should be pretty easy searching...

 

Problem is, that Smikal and Šmíkal or Smejkal and Šmejkal so such close words with same sense, that it is very difficult incept all possible variants, which many could arise just by local dialects or colloquial idioms.
You are right, that some or many hypethetical relations could be find during diligent searching.
