Visiting Prague in late November

Postby Angela_O » 08-Sep-08 20:01

Hi all! I am thinking about taking my family to Prague over Thanksgiving week (late November). I'm wondering if things like the cafes, the museum, and the castle will be open. I'm wondering about the weather, as well. We live in Florida, USA. Snow would be a thrill for us!
I was there in late April of this year, and I want to show my family everything that I fell in love with. I would hate to get there to find that things were closed for the slow season.
Thanks in advance!

I don't think you're likely to get snow in Prague in November. We only had two serious snowfalls last winter. But everything should be open although perhaps with shorter opening hours and there will be one big advantage to coming in November: fewer American tourists! (Only joking!)

You never know about snow. Last two winters were extremely mild, but if I remember correctly, 3 years ago it started snowing in November and the snow didn't melt till the spring even in Olomouc, where we usually don't get much snow.
There's a Czech pranostika* "Svaty Martin prijizdi na bilem koni" (St. Martin arrives on the white horse) - meaning it's not unusual to snow on St. Martin's Day (November 11). So there's still hope.

* a saying related to weather on a certain day, I don't know the English word for it.
Edit: It's supposed to be called "weather lore".
