Hi again everyone, I hope I'm putting this in the correct place. Its a week now that I will arrive on my first vist to Prague and the Czech Republic and I was wondering if anyone could let me know what type of weather to expect during my two week stay Sep 22 thru Oct 6. I think I'm set, if I can just get the packing done! Thanks all, and have a great day.
Right now is pretty cold - 5-8°C (41-46°F) during day and during night temperature could drop under 0°C (32°F).
We've gone from t-shirts to anoraks in two days and something tells me that we're not going to be back in t-shirts again this year! It's 7 degrees at the moment - 7.37am and it was 11 degrees when we went to bed last night.
I know, it was practically over-night! The heat in my building was finally turned on today. It's as though they considered holding out, but gave up. My students tell me that there will be a babí léto (Indian summer), though I'm not sure what makes them say so.
First snow.. http://domaci.ihned.cz/c1-27697300-v-cesku-napadl-prvni-snih-na-sumave-pet-centimetru Unfortunately not in Prague:-(
Wow...glad I asked!!! Looks like I need to dig a jacket outta stoarage. Sounds kinda nice though after a hot and humid East Tennessee summer. Thanks for the responses everyone. I'm looking forward to arriving whatever the weather! Dobry vecer.
The Babi Leto is scheduled for the last week in Sept - beginning of October. Just when I am in England It's really anyone's guess what clothes you might need. I've certainly been here in years where we have gone from t shirts to anoraks and back again more than once in the autumn......
They have it from weather forecast. Heating period starts in CZ in middle of October and goes for 210 days. (hope I remmeber it correctly) There is also another rule for starting heating period: if after 1 September the temperature is 12 Celsius or lower for 3 subsequent days then heating period starts sooner. This rule turned your heating on.
What happens if there's a babí léto? Does the heating stay on? Or if the temperature rises above 12 degrees, do they switch it back off? I can see it getting to the high 20s again and it taking three days before the heating goes off!
Unfortunatelly the heating will go off. Should say I gave you old info. Now it is more simply defined and slightly different. (1) Otopné období začíná 1. září a končí 31. května následujícího roku. (5) V případě souhlasu nejméně dvou třetin nájemníků (spotřebitelů) se vytápění uskutečňuje mimo otopné období, vyžaduje-li to průběh venkovních teplot a připouští-li to technické a zásobovací podmínky. Shortly (1) Heating period starts September 1 and end May 31. (2)Heating itself starts (within this period) when average day temperature is under +13 Celsius for 2 days and there is expectation it stays under +13 in the next day. (3) Average day temperature is counted: (temp. at 7.00+temp. at 14.00+ temp. at 21.00+ temp. at 21.00)/4 (4) Heating (again within heating period) will be reduced or interupted if temperature rises above +13 Celsius for 2 days and there is exceptation it will stay above +13 in the next day too. Following fall of temperature under +13 will restore heating again. (5) If at leat two thirds of tenatnts (customers) agrees then heating can be done also outside hetaing period (if it is possible). ------------ They use only term "Otopné období" instead of common "topná sezóna". I understand it so "Otopné období" is judical term. - period between Sept 01-May 31 and "topná sezóna" is period in which is heating on.
Considering current fluctuations in wheater you can expect everything: -20 C - +20 C (app 0-70 F). "Normal" temperature is slightly under 0 C with fluctuation +/- 5 C, so 25-35 F. Last years was warmer - also 10 C and higher temperature. Right, one of my friends has just come back from Prague and he said it was -20 which i don't believe. How cold is it there at the moment?
You should trust your friend, we have extreme frosts here. Right now, there is -11 °C in Prague, see here. Here in the Eastern Bohemia I have -16 °C behind the windows and my thermometer says that -22 °C was the minimal temparature in last 24 hours.
I've seen today some foreign tourist in Prague, he wore designer moccasins (quite ruined by snow) and some woolen sweater instead of jacket. He didn't look very happy.
