I'm looking for the czech lyrics to a folk song (well I believe its a folk song, it was sung in the days that people lived in Castles.) Anyway, the song is a duet with a man and woman. The man is telling the woman that God gave her to him and she will love him forever. Throughout the song she says she will turn into different things to stay away from him and that she will never love him not even for one hour. Every verse, he has a solution to what she wants to turn into, for instance when she turns into a star and hide among the planets, he has a telescope and he will find her and pull her back to him because God gave her to him and she will love him forever. She replies, I'll never love you not even for one hour.

Anyway, the song is beautiful and I've never heard it in English nor do I want to. But it was translated to me and I loved it. I would like the lyrics if anyone knows of a website where this song can be found (czech lyrics) so I can try to learn the song.

Also, if anyone is really bored, it would be nice to see a written English translation as well.

Sorry I don't have the name of the song. I hope someone recognizes it by the story line. Thanks

Wow, a pat on the back to the Moravians. The Moravian version is much more enjoyable. Sorry Bohemians but you loose this one. :)

That's the Bohemian one. It is pretty but still favor the Moravian one.

I just listened to the others, they are all very pretty.

The one by the brass band, sounds very similar to Polska music that you might here in Pennsylvania.

Polska music is quite popular in that area of the country.

That would be polka not polska. That is Czech national dance, it has nothing to do with Poland.

You are right. I meant Polka.
It does sound similar to that style music though.
Didn't know it was the national dance.
    It is very nice.

No wonder when I heard it I thought, "That sounds exactly like the one they play at those Czech Celebrations in Chicago."

This song was on in the pub the other night and it really floored me, it's so beautiful.

Luckily someone was able to stop singing for long enough to write down the name of it for me and I found it on you tube

Someone there also posted an english translation of the lyrics, i think it's upside down though

    And I´ll make myself
    A star in the sky
    And I will shine
For all the people on Earth
    I won´t be yours though
    Even for an hour

    And there are
Such a star-gazers at my home
    They can count
All the stars in the sky
And you have to be mine
Or you´ll be given to me by Lord
    And I´ll make myself
    A big crow
And I´ll fly away from you
Far away to the Hungarian side
    I won´t be yours though
    Even for an hour

    And I have at home
    Such an old crossbow
    It will shoot
The spirit out of all crows
And you have to be mine
Or you´ll be given to me by Lord

    And I´ll make myself
    A little fish
And I´ll gloat away from you
    Far away in Danube
    I won´t be yours though
    Even for an hour

    And I have at home
    Such a barb
I will hunt down all kind of fishes
    With this one
And you have to be mine
Or you´ll be given to me by Lord

    And I´ll make myself
    A little squirrel
And I´ll jump far from you
From the oak on the fir
    I won´t be yours though
    Even for an hour

    And I have at home
    Such an axe
    It will make fall down
Both the oak and the fir
And you have to be mine
Or you´ll be given to me by Lord

    You are troubled in vain
    My dear sonny
I don´t care for you in my heart
    In my heart
    And I won´t be yours
    Even for an hour

    What are you thinking about
    My dear lass
    For your are my heart
    My bonny heart
And you have to be mine
Or you´ll be given to me by Lord

It's not upside down, no need to worry :) Čechomor's songs already made two or three appearances on the message boards here, you might also like Mezi horami - http://www.cechomor.cz/movies
