    Hi all,

Looking for info on a Maria Zabransky, daughter of Peter Zabransky and Maria Stimbal. She married a Josef Matijeas in about 1880. Maria and Josef are my great grand parents and they came to America in 1887 with 4 small children.

The stumbling block in my search comes from the last name of Josef. It was spelled differently when they got off the ship and has gone through several variations, Matijeas and Matijas, until the current version of Matias.

To the best of my knowledge, Josef was born in Prague and death certificates are vague with regard to the names of his parents, Josef and his wife, last name Tomas?

Any ideas on where to look for additional information?

    Thanks,
    Diana

    Hi again,

Forgot to say that my father thinks he remembers hearing that at one time, probably before the big ship trip, that the family's last name had been, now please forgive the spelling...but something that would sound like some variation of Czechovic. How this became Matijeas I will probably never know.

    Thanks,
    Diana
