Diminutives and 'making names' out of general nouns

After my last few questions, I figured I'd try and sort this out in theory because I'm quite into 'making names' out of words to use for friends. For example:

jeskyne > Jeskynka > ahoj Jeskynko

...in general, what noun endings might you end up wanting to turn into words that you can make diminutives out of, and is there any general rule for the way you change the end (I don't mean the pad [vocative], but the change as above from 'yne' to 'ynka').

I hope this all makes sense. Basically, I'm trying to ask...how can I go to a dictionary, and find a noun I want to change into a name, then know how to modify the ending to make it like a person's name, and how can I make it more-and-more dimunitive from there?

I know often it would be hit-and-miss as far as conveying a meaning that makes sense to a Czech, but I'd at least like to try to figure out in general how to do the converting so I can at least get a strange look rather than no look at all because I couldn't even form the word...

Hoping I haven't left the planet with this,

    Shawn:)
