In english, we swear something is true with maybe ....
Hand to God or ...may God strike me dead.

I saw a flying saucer yesterday, may God strike me dead.

At se na mistě propadnu...What exactly does this mean?

    "At se na místě propadnu"
"May I fall in right here and now" - probably meant as "May I fall in hell right here and now" - it is the same as you mentioned, it is a swearing.

"Ať se na místě propadnu, jestli to není pravda"
"If it is not true, may the hell devour me right here and now"

Díky za to Eleshar, kdo bydlí někde střed civilisovného vesmíru.
Věř mi, život není tak snadné tu na hranici mezi všemi těmi barbary.
At' se na mistě propadnu, jestli ti říkám lež.

in Canada we have a similar saying "may the earth open up and swallow me if I am telling a lie" or "may the ground open up..."
(something similar to "may God strike me dead, if it's a lie")

It's seem like all of nations in the world have equilateral oaths. :)

In Vietnam you can swear that :" Heaven me exterminated, earth me destroyed if I am telling a lie !"

But who trusts in these oaths isn't me :D :D :D

    Dobry vecer lidi ! 8)
