I am half Czech and a mixture of Spanish and Italian for the other half. My Czech side pulls very strongly as I get older. Now with a grandchild in the way, I feel compelled to learn more and pass it on. Two questions, does anyone know whether the last names Surycek (my dad's) or Havrda (my grandmother's) are German-Czech, or Celt-Czech if you may? or other? Please let me know. Thanks. Half Czech, full crazy, in Edmonton
Havrda was already discussed, briefly: the German surname Haberda (Hawerda) is from the German first name Eberhard. Surycek is very strange (perhaps misspelled). But you can find many Syručeks or Syrůčeks in the CR. Both Havrda and Syruček are common surnames.
Is then Syrucek of Slavic or Celtic origin? quote="bibax"]Havrda was already discussed, briefly: the German surname Haberda (Hawerda) is from the German first name Eberhard.
