hello everyone. I have a quick question about this meal that we eat fairly often in my household. my family is basically Canadian but we are Špačeks (my grandfather immigrated here). anyway, this meal is just pork which has been beaten flat for an hour or so, then fried in a breadcrumb and egg mixture. i'm told we make it a bit differently than the traditional way. it's probably my favourite food when served with carrots and mashed potatoes I have no idea how to spell it, but it sounds like žisky? I've been searching the internet for it but I can't find mention of it anywhere. any help would be appreciated
Like this: ? We call it "Řízek". Schnitzel, Wiener schnitzel? Btw. I like those "english" words like schnitzel, sauerkraut, kindergarten...
oh thanks! that's it for sure. come to think of it, I think my cousin Eva said it started with an "r" mm, we are cooking some up right now
But your memory's spot on. I always called it žisky as a child because it was the nearest I could get to my Czech father's pronunciation of ř - the plural of řízek is řízky.
Poles, or even slovaks do the same, if they cannot pronounce it correctly. But in slovak there are complications as well - ô, ŕ, ĺ and ľ for example: cz/sk/en stůl stôl desk mrtvý mŕtvy dead (verb) sloup stĺp column klíč kľúč key
