Hi everyone, or Ahoj!! I'm new to this board and new to learning the Czech language. I hope you folks can answer this question: Which of these two phrases has the right word order: Denisa je znova svobodná or Denisa je svobodná znova. Any help will be appreciated Dějkui. Manny.
Hi manny and welcome to the boards! Both your sentences are grammatically correct. The thing with Czech word order is that it is very flexible and you can often swap parts of a sentence in several different ways. It all depends on what you want to stress in the sentence. Your first sentence, "Denisa je znova svobodná", is a common way of saying that "Denisa is single again". It's a simple statement where the new information is the fact that Denisa is single. The second sentence sounds a little odd (but as I said, it is still grammatically correct) and is stressing the "znova" ("again") part, something like "Denisa is single yet again". I hope this helps. Good luck learning Czech!
