    Hi,

I was trying to look up the declension of "otec" and did so at pravidla.cz.

This is the answer I got:
    Nalezené tvary: otec ~ otce ~ otcem ~ otci ~ otcích ~ otců ~ otcům ~ otče

Can someone help me understand this?
I know that otec ~ otce ~ otcem ~ otci are singular forms, and the others are plural.
But this doesn't really tell me, for example, what the Accusative singular of otec is, or what is the Nominative plural.
(I can guess the Instrumental singular, as well as the Gen. and Dat. plural).

In other words, I don't know what otce ~ otci ~ otcích ~ otče are. :?
    Help, please!

well "otec" is father if I'm correct, so...:

otce ~ otci ~ otcích ~ otče (these are the ones you wanted to know, right?)

= father; to/for/about father (depends on the sentence, it's a matter of the pad?); (pl); vocative

    or something like that...i think...

    Shawn:)
ps sorry I'm not around so much these days - I'm trying to digest what I 'do' (ha ha) know, before I try to learn any more...)

    Hi,

I am still trying to understand this:
They don't seem to be in any meaningful order.

    I think that ...
    otec: Nom. singular
    otce: probably Acc. and Gen. singular;
    otcem: Instrumental singular
    otci: which cases???

    otcích: ????
    otců: Genitive plural
    otcům: Dative plural
    otče: ???

I other words I am missing:
    Dat, Vocative, Locative singular
Nom, Vocative, Locative, Instrumental plural :(

    Thanks in advance.

Otci is in the Dative, Vocative (?) and Locative Case, I guess. - Dám to otci.
Otcích must be the Locative Case Plural. - Mluvime o octích.
As I'm Polish, I'm trying to find any equivalents in my language. Doing this, I can come up with that ''Otče'' is in the Vocative Case Singular (Polish ''Ojcze'').

As I recall, otec declines like muž in most instances (see Local Lingo Masculine Noun Declensions)--Someone correct me if I'm wrong:

    Singular
    Nominitive: otec
    Genitive: otce
    Dative: otci
    Accusative: otce
    Vocative: otče
    Instrumental: otcem
    Locative: otci
    Plural
Nominitive: otci (also otcové, I think)
    Genitive: otců
    Dative: otcům
    Accusative: otci
    Instrumental: otci
    Locative: otcích

    Acc. plur. otce.

Nom. voc. plur. otcové is better.
