I'm curious as to what this song is about - I know it's Mr. President, but what else. I can't rely on pictures on youtube because anyone could put different pictures with the song to change the meaning. Thanks Pane prezidente a ještě stěžuju si že mi podražili pivo jogurty párky i trolejbusy i poštovní známky i bločky na poznámky i telecí plecko Řecko i Německo - prostě všecko Vy to pochopíte vy totiž všechno víte vy se poradíte vy to vyřešíte vy mě zachráníte Pane prezidente já chci jen kousek štěstí pro co jiného jsme přeci zvonili klíčema na náměstí Pane prezidente České republiky oni mě propustili na hodinu z mý fabriky celých třicet roků všecko bylo v cajku teď přišli noví mladí a ti tu řádí jak na Klondiku Vy to pochopíte vy se mnou soucítíte vy se poradíte vy to vyřešíte vy mě zachráníte Pane prezidente já chci jen kousek štěstí pro co jiného jsme přeci zvonili klíčema na náměstí Pane prezidente - moje Anežka kdyby žila ta by mě za ten dopis co tu teď píšu patrně přizabila řekla by: Jaromíre chováš se jak malé děcko víš co on má starostí s celú tu Evropu s vesmírem a vůbec všecko Ale vy mě pochopíte vy totiž všechno víte vy se poradíte vy to vyřešíte vy mě zachráníte Pane prezidente já chci jen kousek štěstí pro co jiného jsme přeci zvonili klíčema na náměstí Pane prezidente
This is a very hard song to translate, but I gave it a try: Pane prezidente a ještě stěžuju si MR. PRESIDENT... PRESIDENT, IF MY ANEZKA (wife) LIVED ta by mě za ten dopis co tu teď píšu patrně přizabila SHE WOULD KILL ME FOR THIS LETTER řekla by: Jaromíre chováš se jak malé děcko SHE WOULD SAY: JAROMIR, YOU ARE ACTING LIKE A CHILD víš co on má starostí s celú tu Evropu s vesmírem a vůbec všecko DO YOU KNOW HOW MANY WORRIES HE (president) HAS WITH ALL THE EUROPE AND THE UNIVERSE Ale vy mě pochopíte YOU WILL UNDERSTAND vy totiž všechno víte BECAUSE YOU KNOW EVERYTHING vy se poradíte vy to vyřešíte YOU WILL CONSULT (my problem), YOU WILL SOLVE THE PROBLEM vy mě zachráníte YOU WILL HELP ME Pane prezidente MR. PRESIDENT já chci jen kousek štěstí I JUST WANT A PIECE OF HAPPINESS pro co jiného jsme přeci zvonili WHY ELSE DID WE TINKLE klíčema na náměstí THE KEYS IN THE SQUARE Pane prezidente MR. PRESIDENT This song needs little bit of understanding of the Czech history, the relationship between people of this country and president. See, we generally (Czechs) don’t believe in God so Mr. President has always been highest authority. Then there is a part dealing with desillusion after the Velvet Revolutions, when everybody was exited and everybody was looking forward the bright future...
My attempt . Alomem’s translation is good and I’m sure I have mistakes in my lyrics (mainly with tenses), but I think alomem missed one important point. The song is written from the perspective of a man who is not able to adapt to the capitalism and his way of expresing himself reflects it. He points out the problems of capitalism (both real and alleged) and fail to remember problems of communism (no holidays in Greece/Germany, for example). I use the complete lyrics. Mr. President, constutional representative, I’m writing you a complaint that my childern have forgotten me it’s about my son Karel (Charles) and the younger daughter Eva they didn’t write for a year, neither did they come for a visit a year. You will understand it you know everything (- that is to say) you will consult it, you will resolve it you will save me. Mr. President, I just ask for a piece of happiness, for what else did we tinkle with the keys in the town square? (This refers to the Velvet Revolution.) Mr. President, and I’m complaining as well that they marked up (to me) the beer, yoghourt, sausages and even the trolleybus and even the postage stamps, and the notepads, even the veal shoulder, (holiday in) Greece and Germany - simply everything. You will understand it you know everything (- that is to say) you will consult it, you will resolve it you will save me. Mr. President, I just want a piece of happiness, for what else did we tinkle with the keys in the town square? Mr. President of the Czech Republic, they fired me at an hour’s notice from my factory, for all the thirty years everything was perfectly all right, and now some young ones have come, and they act like on Klondike. You will understand it, you sympathize with me, you will consult it, you will resolve it you will save me. Mr. President, I just want a piece of happiness, for what else did we tinkle with the keys in the town square? Mr. President, my Anežka (Agnes), if she was still alive, would nearly kill me for this letter I’m writing right now, she would say: “Jaromír, you act like a child, do you know how many concern he has with the whole Europe, the Universe and everything?“ You will understand it you know everything (- that is to say) you will consult it, you will resolve it you will save me. Mr. President, I just want a piece of happiness, for what else did we tinkle with the keys in the town square? Mr. President…
