    Hi, I've married into a Czech decendant family and was "shoppping around" for some Gramma and Grampa terms for our little boy to use for my in-laws. I've come across "babi" and will use that for his Gramma but what is the slang czech term for Grampa? I found "dedecek" but even with the audio pronunciation I'm not sure that I'll ever get it right and I thought maybe shortened it would be "dede" but that sounds really close to "daddy/dada" to me and I don't want our son getting confused. Any helpful suggestion would be greatly appreciated!

    The type of Grandfather slang I am refering to in English is Grampa, papa, papy, etc...

    it is "dědeček" -> "děda" (when addressing somebody it is "dědo")

    Grandpa = děda
    dear grandpa = milý dědo
    (go) to grandpa = jedu k dědovi

    "děde" is more formal than "dědo", it originates from word "děd"

    worry it will not help you to much because pronunciation of "dědo!" and "daddy" is too close.
