Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening Přestavaje se u lesa ve večer, kdy sněžilo by: Robert Frost....napsaná Robertem Frostem Whose woods these are I think I know. His house is in the village though; He will not see me stopping here To watch his woods fill up with snow. My little horse must think it queer To stop without a farmhouse near Between the woods and frozen lake The darkest evening of the year. He gives his harness bells a shake To ask if there is some mistake. The only other sound's the sweep Of the easy wind and downy flake. Chveje mu krk, aby zvonil své postrojové vony, aby se zeptal zda je tady chyba...zda jsme se tu zastavili omylem, jediný jiný zvuk je ten 'swoosh' lehkého vítru a měkké vločky. The woods are lovely, dark, and deep, But I have promises to keep, And miles to go before I sleep, And miles to go before I sleep. Les je nadherný, temný a hustý, ale jsou to sliby, které musím uchovat, a ještě mi zbivají mily dřív, než mohu spát. a ještě mi zbivají mily dřív, než mohu spát.
EXCELENT WORK! few little improvements: Ci les je tohle -> "Ci je tenhle les" (more specific) or "Ci les to je" (less specific) Můj koníček si musí myslet, že je to divné, ... mezi lesem a zamrzlým jezerem, Chveje mu krk ... why not like in english "Rozezniva/ zvoni zvonky na svem postroji" ? "swoosh" - svist (as " Vitr svisti po kluzisti" ) lehkého vetru a měké vločky (in Czech sounds better plural - mekych vlocek) ale jsou to sliby, které musím uchovat, -> "ale jsou tu sliby, ktere musim dodrzet" "a ještě mi zbivají mily dřív, než mohu spát." - jeste mi zbyva (urazit) mnoho mil, (drive) nez mohu (jit) spat
Thanks MK , that is encouraging!
Canis Major.....constellation...the big dog by: Robert Frost The great Overdog That heavenly beast With a star in one eye Gives a leap in the east. Ten veliký pes nahoře ten nebeský zvíre s hvězdou v jedním očí, vyskočí z východu He dances upright All the way to the west And never once drops On his forefeet to rest. Tančí na své nohy, celou cestu do západu, a ani jednou neklesne na své přední nohy, aby si odpočinul I'm a poor underdog, But to-night I will bark With the great Overdog That romps through the dark. ............. Kind of loses it's intent Overdog....he made up this word to be the opposite of underdog....meaning someone who is not likely to win at something.
EXCELLENT AGAIN! I was always curious about difference between underdog and outsider. I found only one - outsider has also another meaning. Translation for Overdog and Underdog do not exists in Czech. maybe - overdog - nadpes, tfuj :? maybe better - "psí favorit" vs "psí outsider" or just simple "voříšek" (mixed race)
I thought about that too.....nadpes...but I figured it would not translate well....more like a poor attempt at saying...nad psem....above the dog ve tmě.....'an apple' as opposed to 'a apple'...nice example outsider....someone from outside our group Pan Švejk choval všoříšky ale tvařil se jako někdo, kdo choval čistokrevné psy.
The Road Not Taken..Cesta, kterou jsem necestoval. by: Robert Frost Two roads diverged in a yellow wood, And sorry I could not travel both And be one traveler, long I stood And looked down one as far as I could To where it bent in the undergrowth; Dvě cesty se rozcházeli ve žlutém lesem, a smutně, nemohl jsem obě cestovat (byv jen jeden poutník), dlouho jsem tam stál, a díval jsem se po jednu tak daleko jak byl možné, až do místa, kde se otočila v podrostem, Then took the other, as just as fair, And having perhaps the better claim, Because it was grassy and wanted wear; Though as for that the passing there Had worn them really about the same, Potom jsem si vybral druhou, byla také hezká, a byla asi dokonce i hezčí, protože byla na ni tráva, a toužila po poutník, ale ve skutečnosti, ti, kteří už tam cestovali, šlapali na ni asi podobně. And both that morning equally lay In leaves no step had trodden black. Oh, I kept the first for another day! Yet knowing how way leads on to way, I doubted if I should ever come back. I shall be telling this with a sigh Somewhere ages and ages hence: Two roads diverged in a wood, and I - I took the one less traveled by And that has made all the difference.
Who Is This I came out alone on my way to my tryst. But who is this that follows me in the silent dark? I move aside to avoid his presence but I escape him not. He makes the dust rise from the earth with his swagger; he adds his loud voice to every word that I utter. He is my own little self, my lord, he knows no shame; but I am ashamed to come to thy door in his company.
