PF 2010 from Jeff and Dana

    I couldn't post a reply to the original message from Jeff and Dana, but I received an SMS from a friend in the Czech Republic on New Year's day with the same greeting "PF 2010".

    I asked another Czech friend who is staying in London what it meant and she said it might be something to do with Latin - she knows it is used at home but is not 100% sure why.

    Could someone satisfy my curiosity and explain what the "PF" stands for, please :) ?

    PF - pour féliciter - from French - it means congratulation

    PF stays for French “pour féliciter” (“for felicitation” in English). Its usage as New Year’s congratulations is restricted to the areas of Czech influence.

    Originally, the phrase was used on small graphic pieces which were used as New Year’s congratulations in similar way as Latin “Ex libris” for bookplates.
