divam se divam

I absolutely love this song but unfortunately, I'm unable to capture the meaning. I tried using dictionaries to translate it, but I don't think it's coming across in the translation because it really isn't making much sense to me. Anyway, if someone could explain to me the message the author is trying to get across, that would be great. Thanks

Dívám se dívám a ty spíš
matně se leskne malý kříž
stoupá a klesá tvoje hruď
a já si říkám Bůh jen suď
Bůh jen suď.

Zdali až jednou blýskne se
a vítr liják přinese
vezmeš mě k teplu pod tvůj plášť
jestli to pro mě uděláš.

Když budu sedět nehnutě
a zase znovu zklamu tě
svým dojmem, že jsem na poušti
a že mě štěstí opouští

(ach!)

Zeptáš se kam jsi oči dal
tvá šťastná hvězda svítí dál
jdi za ní já tu držím stráž,
tak se ptám jestli to uděláš.

Tak se ptám jestli to uděláš
Pro mě uděláš.

Co když se těžce zadlužím
i ten kříž prodáš - co já vím
když mě mé masky unaví
stáhneš mě k sobě do trávy,
do trávy.

A klidně řekneš hroznou lež:
na svoje léta hezkej jseš
před sebou ještě všechno máš
jestli to pro mě uděláš.

Co když mě zapřou přátelé
a budu s cejchem na čele
podroben strašné žalobě
vzkážeš mi: stojím při tobě.

Jen při tobě (ach!) jediná vždycky budu stát
i když ti celý svět dá mat
věřím ti všecko - braň se, snaž,
jen se ptám zda to uděláš.

Jen se ptám jestli to uděláš
pro mě uděláš.

Stoupá a klesá tvoje hrud'
tak spolehlivě jako rtut'
na teploměru našich dní
ráno svět zuby vycení,
vycení.

A mně se mnohé nezdaří
ale tvé prsty po tváři
mi zvolna přejdou každý zvlášt'
Vím že to pro mě uděláš

Já vím že to pro mě uděláš
všechno uděláš.

All I can get out of it is that he's watching her sleep and asking her to do something for him.

Yet, the way the song sounds, it must have much deeper meaning that that :)

Well I see it is pretty complicated :-). The singer wants to assure himself that she will be there for him no matter what... Just some examples: If he is old, out of luck, in debt, abandoned by friends... she will always be there for him.

I could try to translate but it is pretty complicated even in czech, vocabulary of Hapka is really wide and there is lot of words I have no idea how to translate.

Like the word: zapřít. Slovník gives quite a lot of translations, but I have no idea which fits the best. The word is very rare, I remember it is in the Bible (Petr zapřel Ježíše). Means "to claim you do not know someone or something, despite it is not true".

If you have problem with some parts or words in particular, I am happy to help, but the whole poem/song is too long and needs some pro.

Come on! We are not expected to provide a spotless translation.

The lyrics is actually by Michal Horáček and this one is not as difficult as, let's say, Srdce jako kníže Rohan.

My try:

I keep watching you asleep
your small cross dimly shining
your breast moving up and down
and I say to myself only heavens knows
only heavens knows

Whether, once a lighting strikes
and wind brings rain,
whether you will let me warm up under your coat
whether you can do it for me

When I sit motionless
and disappoint you once again
for feeling alone in desert
and that my luck is falling.

(ah!)

Will you ask me: "What happened to your eyes?
Your lucky star keeps shining.
Follow her, I'm here on guard for you."
So I ask whether you can do it.

So I ask whether you can do it,
do it for me.

What if I run up debts
will you sell the cross you wear - what do I know?
When I get tired of my guises
will you draw me to you down upon the grass,
down upon the grass?

And without a trace of blush say a terrible lie:
"you're handsome for your age
you still have your live ahead of you"
whether you can do it for me.

What if my friends renounce me
and I branded on my forehead
get confronted with some grave accusation
will you let me know: "I stand by you?

By you only (ah!) I alone will always stand
despite the whole world check-mate you
I believe you everything - fight back, keep trying!"
I just ask whether you can do it.

I just ask whether you can do it
do it for me.

Your breast is moving up and down
as reliably as mercury
in the thermometer of our days
at dawn, the world will bare its teeth,
bare its teeth.

And surely I will fail many times
but your fingers, one by one,
will slowly stroke my face.
I'm sure you will do it for me

I am positive you will do it for me
you will do anything.

Thank you for the explanation and the translation. I didn't expect a translation though, just a synopsis of the song. Alexx, the word you are looking for is denied. Peter denied Christ three times. :)

Good thinking, giving me a biblical explanation, I'm sure you figured I'd know the word right away

Were, did you translate it yourself or find a translation? Either way, it's nice to have it. Thank you :)
