I am an American student who will be studying at Charles University in Praha the month of July.

Do you suggest that I wait until I am in Praha to purchase or rent a mobile phone? I have the option of purchasing one in USA - but it is very pricey and will cost me 2 usd per minute to receive and send calls.

This will be my first trip to Eastern Europe - any suggestions?

    thanks,.

    Hi there!

It is definitely better to wait until you're in Prague and buy a mobile phone there. The US system is different from that used in Europe. You can buy a phone at around $100 and then you can use prepaid cards, which is an easy and economical way to send and receive calls. The three main mobile phone companies in the Czech Republic are Eurotel, T-Mobile (formerly Paegas), and Oskar.
