If there are any websites on Czech etymology I can't find or understand them.. I just want to know the etymology of one word today...

    Osel!

Because we have a word in Irish.. Asal... Also meaning donkey, which is pronounced almost identically, and I want to know if it's a coincidence!

I can't find any Irish/Gaeilge etymology websites either. It's frustrating.

Another wierd similarity is Unor.. meaning February in Czech and January in Irish.

The word OSEL is Panslavic, the loan word from Gothic: ASIL(US), from Latin: ASINUS. In German: ESEL.

    Thank you!

Makes sense! it's that European origin of the celts at work again then.

Where did you get the information?

    For instance:

Stručný etymologický slovník jazyka českého, SPN Praha, 1978

(Concise ethymological dictionary of the Czech language.)

    I have another question..

What about the etymology of pus - pusa... coll. for mouth.. its in English and Irish as well, it came into English from Irish but again I cant find out how it got into Irish because I cant find an Irish etymological dictionary.

Sorry for the lack of punctuation in my post, still cant find anything on a Czech keyboard.
