Below are our suggestions for day trips from Prague. The minimum recommended time to spend at each location is the absolute minimum and does not include lunch and the time necessary to walk from the train/bus station or parking lot and back.

Kutná Hora

Kutná Hora

Kutná Hora is a beautiful town of great historical significance thanks to the silver that was mined here in the Middle Ages. Its historical center is on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

Minimum recommended time to spend in Kutná Hora: 2 - 3 hours

Karlštejn Castle

Karlštejn Castle

Karlštejn Castle is one of Czech Republic's most visited castles. It was founded by Charles IV in 1348. It makes for a perfect day trip from Prague.

Minimum recommended time to spend at Karlštejn: 2 hours
The castle is closed on Mondays and during part of the winter.

Karlovy Vary

Karlovy Vary

Founded in 1350 by Czech king Charles IV, Karlovy Vary (Karlsbad) is the best-known Czech spa town. It hosts a yearly international film festival and welcomes lots of visitors year round.

Tábor

Tábor

The small town of Tábor is not a top tourist destination although it does hold historical significance linked to the Hussite wars of the 15th century. If you'd like to spend a pleasant day in a historic Czech town not far from Prague, Tábor can be a good choice.

Olomouc

Olomouc

Olomouc may seem a bit far to visit on a day trip but a train from Prague makes it there in just two hours. The historical center is condensed enough to be covered easily in a few hours.

Dresden, Germany

Dresden is a frequent day trip destination from Prague, being only two hours away by train or bus. You can certainly spend more than an afternoon, but even a few hours will give you a good feel for the city. A popular time to visit is before Christmas when Christmas markets are on.
