Thanks, people, for your birthday greetings, both public and private. Very kind of you. Birthday present was tickets for La Boheme at Státní Opera next week - my favourite opera! And Dzurisova, sorry to disappoint you but Bovril is a beefy hot drink, very nice but definitely not alcoholic! It's what you take a flask of when you go to football matches in the middle of winter. I've got a nice Bovril story. It was particularly popular during the war and there used to be big advertising posters for it everywhere. My Czech father, when he first arrived in England, travelled across country by train with his fellow escapees and they thought that every town in England was called Bovril because of the posters at the railway stations!
:lol: It reminds me of the time I took my sons (15 and 17) to France for their first visit; the older one thought all underground stops in Paris were called "Sortie"! :lol:
Unfortunately I don't remember the name of the restaurant, but it was an upstairs restaurant, with a lot of bamboo furniture and decor! It was a real attempt at being 'special' but ended up looking (from an English perspective) a little 'tacky'. We actually thought the menu quote was an attempted joke at the expense of the English, but then we realised how serious they were!
