In Prague in April, who's up for a beer/coffee?

    Hi Nat!

Well, there's always another time. It's good to hear that you might be coming this summer. Just let us know when you're going to be around. I'm a fan of the dark Kozel too :)

Dana and I dropped by U černého vola. It's a nice old-time Czech pub, but a little small and it's not possible to make reservations. There's a good chance it will be full, so it's probably best to scratch it off the list for the get together.

    Hi Jeff,
Thanks for checking it out for us. It wasn't too much of a hardship, I hope? Are you planning to do a little more "field research" to find a suitable establishment?? I feel so bad for you, I wish I could help..

    Hello everyone!

I like this idea of a new get-together very much! Please count me in as well!
I am looking forward to meeting you all in front of glass of beer.
April 20 would be good for me but I am pretty flexible and willing to agree on any date that can see us all together :)
I would definitely vote for U cerneho vola but as Dana said there may be the risk of not finding a place.
Depending on the weather I would suggest U osla v kolebce in Malá Strana not so far from U černého vola. They have a very nice courtyard there.
Otherwise we could move the get-together to Žižkov.
Dana, how about a place like Kuře v hodinkách?

That's a good Idea! Do you know any place in Žižkov which offers Kozel :)?

He he, yes, it was a pain to do the research, let me tell you. By the way, the U černého vola was full when we got there, so we had no luck there. We actually had a great time at the Klášterní pivovar Strahov across from the Strahov Monastery. Their beer is great, they brew their own, but it's a little pricey (49 Kč for 0.4 l), so the bill would add up quickly.

I'm sorry you won't be there Nat, but I'm happy to hear that you may be coming this summer!

    Hi Lorenzo,

Good to hear you can join us!

U osla v kolébce (At the Donkey in the Cradle) sounds like a very nice option on a warm evening. I'm sure we could even be inside if it's cold, right? Do you know how easy it may be to get in and what beer they serve? Just so others know, the address is Jánský vršek 8/312 - a beautiful location in Malá Strana, just off of Nerudova.

Kuře v hodinkách (Chicken in the Watch) would work as well. Info for others: It is a regular restaurant in Žižkov, at Seifertova 26, tram 5, 9 or 26 to Lipanská. They have good food and it's pretty spacious in there. I don't remember what beer they serve.

Dana, you are right, U osla v kolébce would be just fine on a warm evening. Inside it’s also nice but pretty small so it would be better to place a reservation maybe even on the day everyone is in Prague. As for the beer they have Pilsner Urquell and probably Gambrinus too.

At Kuře v hodinkách I liked the hall downstairs with all the Rock ‘n’ Roll memorabilia and the jukebox. Don’t remember the kind of beer they serve there though.

Helen, over the weekend I will try to find out the places in Žižkov where they have Kozel, which means that I will volunteer for a beer exploration. ;-)

Nat, good to hear you will be visiting in summer! :)

    Hi again, everyone!

Huh, it really is a bit pricey. Altough it's quite a typical beer price in Estonia, I'd prefer a place in Prague where the beer won't taste like money :).

Thanks, Lorenzo! I'm a bit selfish with that Žižkov thing  The reason is that I've hang around the city center of Prague so many times but I've been in Žižkov only couple of times and I've never visited any pubs there, so it would be a nice change.
    But I'll join you anyway!

    Helen,

I like Žižkov and of course I welcome places that have good beer at a fair price.
In between Žižkov and Vinohrady there is also a nice park with an open-air pivnice.
 In the days you are in Prague we could also drop there if the weather is fine.

    Hi Lorenzo,
I'll be arriving Friday morning, so if you need a hand with the explorations, let me know. I'll be more than glad to give you a hand.
..hic.. :) Žižkov would be a perfect area, and one that I'm not terribly familiar with but would like to.

    Hi Prokop,

Yes, why not? :) I have left you a private message with my contact.
I think that either Saturday or Sunday we could start the explorations.

    Hi everyone,

So, Jeff and I discovered a potentially good place for our get-together. It is the Restaurace v Korunní at Korunní 39 in Prague 2-Vinohrady. It is a typical, old-time Czech pub/restaurant that serves good and cheap Czech food (60 - 70 Kč per meal) and the following good and cheap beer:

    Radegast 10 deg., Gambrinus 10 deg., Kozel dark 10 deg. - 0.3 l for 11 Kč, 0.5 l for 18 Kč
    Pilsner Urquell 12 deg. - 0.3 l for 15 Kč, 0.5 l for 24 Kč

To get there, you take metro A or tram 4, 10, 16, 22 or 23 to Náměstí Míru and then either walk or take tram 10 or 16 one stop to Šumavská. They take reservations and I'd be happy to make one for us. Let's see if Lorenzo comes up with an idea for a place in Žižkov - or do we all prefer U osla v kolébce or Kuře v hodinkách?

    Hi Dana,

What you have written about this place sounds good.
I would definitely go for it :). Unfortunately my explorations had to be put on hold during the weekend. :?
If we get together in this place in Vinohrady and later on we decide to move somewhere else we’d actually be close to Žižkov where we could visit some hospoda down on Bořivojova

 As for the date I would suggest the 20th but how would that work with you people?

    Hi Lorenzo and everyone,

Good idea. So we can meet at Restaurace v Korunní and then go somewhere else if we want to. Prok, Helen, what do you think about that? Let me know if I should make a reservation and for what date and time. As I mentioned before, I can't make it on the 20th because I'm not free on Wednesday evenings. And on the 18th, Jeff and I would only be able to come after 7 p.m., which is fine I guess. The other evenings (the 19th and 21st) are fine with us and it sounded like Helen also prefers those two dates.

    Hi!

Bad news from me. I can't come to Prague in April :(. So I'm afraid my first opportunity to see you all is in the end of May.
But you have fun next week! I'll buy some Czech beer here, in Estonia and think about you :)

    Hi Dana,
Sounds good. I don't know which night will be good as I'm waiting on last-minute theater tickets. I'm off for the weekend, but will check back here Monday morning,

    Cau,

If there is still a possibility to join in, I'm interested. Beer and company is alwyas a nice combination. :)

I have a family engagement on the 19th that can't be rescheduled, but the 21st works for me.
