Hi, my grandma used to say this phrase all the time and she never told me what it meant, so I assume that it wasn’t totally appropriate for little kids. I don’t know how to spell it correctly in Czech, so I will spell it phonetically in English. I really hope someone can help because this has been bugging me for some time. Here it is: ya sze shmahtia Again, this was something she would mutter under her breath when she was frustrated or irritated. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
Hello! I'm sorry for the late response to your question. I missed it. My American husband had a good guess as to what your grandma may have been saying. He hears me say the same thing almost every day. His guess was "Ježišmarja" and I think he's right. It literally means "Jesus Maria". We Czechs say this quite commonly when we're irritated, surprised, etc. It's milder and more harmless than the English "Jesus Christ". I hope it helps!
