I am curious about the music scene in Czech. I am wondering what is the top band out there on your top 40. Out in the states, we are fed MTV non stop - do you guys have MTV?

Yes, we do have MTV (European (continental)) channel - same kind of program but the shows are different from what you have in the US to suit the European audiences better) but I don't know if there's any czech equivalent of top 40 because I don't generally care what music is "in" and listen to what I like no matter how up to date/out of date it is. Are you interested in any specific genre?

Hi - I like Alternative music. My favorite bands are Pearl Jam, Janes Addiction, Oasis (I am going to the concert in Sept), The killers, Interpol,, etc What do you listen to? Do people in Czech listen to the bands above?

Yes, some people here listen to the bands you listed (I love Pearl Jam myself), maybe except Interpol which isn't very well known.
I personaly listen to virtually anything from baroque music to jazz to thrash metal but I can't stand electronic(synthetic) music (I play the guitar so you get the picture:)).
Anyway, to be honest I can't think of a czech band I'd recommend you, considering your taste, maybe you'd like this band called "Buty" - think Pearl Jam playing (more or less) unplugged (songs like Daughter or Jeremy), with some 3 more people playing some unorthodox instruments and a strong folk/ethnic feel to it - that'd roughly be what Buty sound like.
If you are into more straightforward old-school rock try "Prazsky Vyber"
or "Lucie" (not very good these days but some of the older stuff is really worth listening). The Most popular czech rock band today is "Kabat" - in their early days they used to play average quality thrash but now they sound as if they stole all their riffs from Judas Priest's British Steel and remastered them to be even more radio-friendly. They do have some really good songs but it's easy to get fed up with it. That's basically the mainstream part of today's czech rock scene. If you're interested, try to download it off of some czech DC hub (cause I think it's almost impossible to get that stuff in the states) and see what you think.

    Quite OK.
    www.progres2.org
There should sound samples. A part of great legacy of Czech prog-rock!

    Hurlumhei!

I checked the bands mentioned above but didn't like any of them. Too old-school, too boring. Actually, I once heard about a czech band that is quite famous abroad (or was it Polish?).
So do you have any internationally known bands? Anything more melodic, coldplayish?

I heard Divoced Bill (Wild Bill) on a CD somewhere. I liked them. They have a few CDs out, but I couldn't find them in the music stores ... I don't know if they are still playing or recording ...

I really like the band Zuby Nehty, which is somewhat old (last studio album was in 1997 I believe) Other than that I listen to alot of street punk like Jedna Krev, Proti Smeru (sorry, I didn't punctuate), S.P.S (old school drunk punk), R.A.F., Dezinfekce, and the black metal band called Astral. Alot of the music is kinda hard to find in America... I personally find it online 8)

I was just back in Czech on my vacation and on one channel they played a band that was rock and the lead singer kind of rapped... the video was made too look kind of old but it had a yellow/orangish tint. Beyond that it was black and white and showed the band just playing.
Can anyone please tell me the name of that band... I am dying to know. It had something to do with Cesko or Bastard...

    Thanks

They have a video on the other station that plays music videos on tv. I'm really hoping to find them, I don't think it was Crossczech though.
