Hello everyone I will go to prague this upcoming november and I need to know if I can go around town using only english, french or german, or should I learn few basics in Czech? Language spoken/written in Czech Republic is Czech. It is that simple a that is it. Just like in your country some people know foreign languages, it is same in CR. I am not sure what are you planning to do there, but think of visitors to your own country who don't know your language and imagine their lack of communication skills. Like everywhere in the world to develop tourism industry, people in tourist industry learned other lanquages to communicate with visitors who do not speak Czech/Slovak. If you are considering yourself just one of those tourists who depend only on restaurants set up for tourists (i.e. menu in foreign languages), depend on tourist guides, printed materials in foreighn languages, etc. you will be fine, but be aware that you will live like tourist and you will pay like tourist. Try to learn some Czech - take a look at the language section here (myCzechRepublic). There are even audio files to help you with pronunciation. Czech is a beautiful language, not easy to learn but, well worth the effort. You will have a much better time with even a few basic phrases.
Now almost everybody speaks english at least basic words, but even in my case i found people who speaks spanish, so if u speaks also german wont be a big trouble to comunicate.

Hi, i visited Prague earlier this year for 5 days and had no trouble at all in terms of a language barrier. out of coustesy i attempted to learn a few basic phrases but as i had booked the holiday as a last minute deal i had very little time! i found that English was fairly widely spoken and not just in the touristy areas that overcharge immensely. i'm sure you will get on fine - have a great time!
