Hello, for the past few months I have been learning czech as much as I could. But there are still sometimes when I just cant seem to make sense of what I want to say. If anyone could give this translation a shot for me, id be most appreciative. "I just had to let you know that these last two days without so much as talking to you has given me a lot of time to think about how I feel about you. I have decided that I am definitely, hopelessly in love with you. What made me realize this is not so much that I think about you all the time, though I do. It was how I think about you. Not only do I think about how much I love you, but why, how much, and mostly do I deserve to be loved by you."
Sadly can't help you with the translation but could you explain " Ahojky" - I know about "Ahoj".. TIA (and good luck)
Since no one else has given you an answer, I'll give it a try, and perhaps someone else can correct my mistakes (I'm sure there are a few ). By the way, HampshireLad, "Ahojky" is just a cute way of saying "Hi" ("Ahoj"). Czechs are very fond of these cute diminutive forms. Měl jsem ti dat poznat, že jsem si během minulých dvou dnů, ve kterých jsem s tebou ani nemluvil, přemyšlel nad tim, jak si o tobě citím. Jsem se rozhodl, že jsem uplně, beznadějně zamilovaný do tebe. To, co mi to uskutečnilo, není to přesně, že pořád myslím o tobě, i když je to tak. Je to jaké mám o tobě myšlení. Ne jenom pořád myslím o tobě, ale i o tom proč, kolík, a hlavně jestli zasloužím tvou lásku [I understand this is a question, i.e. whether you deserve to be loved by her?].
Měl/měla jsem ti dát najevo, že jsem během posledních dvou dnů, kdy jsem s tebou ani nemluvil/nemluvila, měl/měla dostatek času, abych přemýšlel/přemýšlela o tom, co k tobě cítím. Zjistil/zjistila jsem, že jsem do tebe úplně a zoufale zamilovaný/zamilovaná. To, co jsem si uvědomil/uvědomila, není ani tak to, že na tebe stále myslím, i když je to tak. Spíše to, jak na tebe myslím. Nemyslím jen na to, jak moc tě miluji, ale také proč, (jak moc ,) a jestli si vůbec zaloužím tvou lásku. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Notes: male/female speaker I think the part in round brackets is misduplicated. ========================================= To Sova: 'Rozhodnout' is mostly translated as 'to decide' but in this context it is'nt correct. 'Rozhodnout' means 'to choose/determine one possibility' (see prefix 'roz-'). "Rozhodl jsem se, že jsem zamilovaný" = 'I choosed I'm in love' BTW to me 'ahojky' sounds nasty.
Prostě ti musím říct, že poslední dva dny bez toho, že bych s tebou vůbec ["mohl mluvit" or "promluvil"], mi daly spoustu času, abych si promyslel, co k tobě cítím. Rozhodl jsem se, že jsem do tebe naprosto, beznadějně zamilovaný. Důvod, proč jsem si to uvědomil, není ani tak v tom, že na tebe pořád myslím, i když to tak je. Je v tom, jak na tebe myslím. Nejen že myslím na to, jak moc tě miluji, ale také proč, jak moc a především jestli vůbec si zasloužím být milován tebou. Some parts are quite hard to translate but I hope I didnt change the meaning too much :? You can replace "Prostě ti musím říct" with "Musím ti říct" if you dont want to stress "just", it sounds a little bit better. You can also replace "poslední dva dny ... mi daly" with "poslední dva dny, během kterých jsme spolu nemluvili, mi daly" It sounds more like that you didnt talk to each other and I think it sounds a bit better (but it changes the maning a bit, too) "Je v tom, jak na tebe myslim" - I dont know. Honestly. I hope someone here can find a better translation, but this is the best what me and my friend could do. Btw. HampshireLad you can also say "Cauky"
Thanks folks .. I have tried ahojky out on my Czech friend by txt tonight I'll give cauky a go tomorrow.. It's such an interesting language and I'm making a concerted effort to learn it properly. The great thing is that there are a lot of Czech people where I work in Woking and I can practice the little Czech I've learnt on them - and they understand me !!
