Hi, I am new to my CzechRepublic (discovered this site entirely by accident). I am quite excited to see so many people interested in this beautiful language.

I've been to Kellowna - attended my friend's wedding there. I've been in Canada since 1969, and have only started returning to Czech in the last few years since our properties were returned to us by the government.

I lived in Toronto at first, and then in Ottawa and finally ended up settling in Edmonton and really enjoy it here. People in this city are really friendly (even in the stores) and very accepting and I really enjoy the difference in the pace of life between Edmonton and Toronto.

Did you come to Canada by yourself, or with your family?

I lived all over the US and Canada as well. I moved to Canada with my parents and about 7 yrs ago they moved to Nevada while I moved to Cleveland Ohio. During the 7 yrs I moved around throughout the US because of my husband's work and the last 2 yrs we were living in Quebec. My parents ended up moving back to BC in the summer because of my fathers job and we decided we would move back to BC so we could be closer to my parents. So here we are!!! They were actually first suppose to move to Edmonton but decided not to and moved to Kamloops instead.
I have younger brother who lives in Nevada still but my husbands family and my grandparents still live in Czech.

Just reading through the introductions when Kanadanka's saying: " When your only tool is a hammer every problem looks like a nail." caught my eye and gave me a good smile.
I love the international participation in the Czech R. web site.

    Glad you like it....
I think my favourite saying is
"some minds should be cultivated; others should just be plowed under"
but I am trying to be nice (or at least not too controversial) on here

    Hello
I have been lurking in the background for a while. Our family came to Canada in 68 and I grew up in Vancouver. Spent time in the arctic and now live in Vernon. Good to see so many Czechs here in BC.

    Cheers

Hello all, I can give you the other perspective becasue I am a Canadian (from Ontario) who is now living in Brno, Czech Republic. I have a boyfriend here in Czech Republic now and we are considering moving to Canada and would like to know what the czech community is like in Ontario. Are there alot of czechs in Ontario? Any comments would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi everyone,

I am new to BC (Vancouver), having just moved from Ontario (Toronto), and originally from Prague.

For the Ontario/Czech prespective: Toronto has many Czechs and Slovaks, but the community cohesiveness is low... mind you I am as guilty of that as the rest, I blended into the multicultural community and most of my friends were neither Czech nor Slovak.

Nevertheless, there are two Czech restaurants, a Czechoslovak theatre, community centre (with an outdoor pool) and at least one Co-op building (that I live in). Mostly Czechs and Slovaks still hang out together.

If there's anyone in Vancouver that could show me around sometime I would be grateful - I am living on UBC campus so I am far from everything.

Jinak mluvim cesky velmi dobre, jen pisu na urovni stredoskolaka...

    Linda
