Hi, I collect antique Czech/Bohemian glass. I import new Czech glass. So I figured I would sign up and say Hello. I would love to visit the Czech Republic, but I really do not like planes. Well, it is not that I do not like planes, it is more that I do not like to fly on them, ha ha.
I understand how you feel about flying. As a young man, I loved flying - I was even on a fast track to become an astronaut for the Navy (but that is a long story for another day). Then things changed. Controller strikes and Presidential firings, maintenance issues and a series of unfortunate plane crashes shook my faith. Even the thought of flying made me nauseous. I had to take tranquilizers for even the shortest two hour hops. I gradually got better about flying (the more I did it, the easier it became) and now I find myself working in the aviation industry. After the last six years of working every day with the professional and dedicated people who make flying possible, I can say that I have extreme confidence in the safety of flying. You are safer on a plane than you are in your car on the drive to the airport. All that said, I know words alone won't do a whole lot to change how you feel. However, let me assure you, a trip to the Czech Republic is worth every minute of white knuckle flying you might have to endure - it is a magnificent, magical place. If you do decide to visit, I would suggest trying CSA (Czech Airlines). They fly out of JFK direct to Prague and I have always experienced great service from them. Flying CSA is a good way to get a jump start on your visit to the Czech Republic - it is like have a little bit of Prague in the air with you (wonderful accents, good food, Czech beer, and friendly people). Give it a shot, you won't be sorry.
Thanks GlennInFlorida, I would like to get over there just because I love the glass, both antique and new so much, and would like to sightsee and take in the culture. Maybe one day I will get up the nerve to fly on that long of a trip. Perhaps a few Czech beers would also help.

Hi gypzy, Well, on the glass side of things, I stick mainly with vases. Collect really translates into both buying and selling. For years on ebay my name was also nasdaqit (a name taken because of my stock trading) but I recently changed it to antiqueartglass because I thought it fit better with what I do on ebay. But the glass vase interest is all over the place. On the Czech/Bohemian, names like Loetz and Rindskopf and Kralik. On American, Tiffany and Quezal going all the way up to the newer names like Lundberg and Vandermark and Correia and Abelman ect. I also collect what is called spatter glass or end of day glass , and also uranium or vaseline glass which glows bright green under an ultraviolet/black light because of it's uranium content, and also whats called rainbow glass like was made by Stevens & Williams, and the list goes on. Other than glass vases, my only other collecting interests are abstract oil paintings, decent wines from around the world, and older mint star baseball cards (Mickey Mantle, Willy Mays, Hank Aaron, Nolan Ryan ect). Really, I finished up with the baseball cards in the mid 1980's after having collected way too many, so I kept the best of the best, and sold the rest. The wine thing is pretty much done and ageing well, so right now it's pretty much glass and paintings. I guess I've always had the collecting bug, once you get it, it's kind of hard to shake. As I'm pushing 50, I'm pretty much happy just waking up in the morning and collecting another day to live on. I say that because recently a number of friends about my age had heart attacks and passed on. That's about it, because my main antique glass interest is Czech and because I also import and sell new Czech glass, I figured I'd log on to this site just to talk some people and maybe make some new contacts in the Czech Republic. I noticed that you are into old westerns. I just asked my sister tonight if she watched a DVD that I had sent down to her yet. It's a newer western, didn't become a big hit. It's called Purgatory. I thought it was a very good western and the ending was great. The whole movie has a very interesting twist in it. I had been waiting for it to come out on DVD and about a year ago it did. Same here. It's inherited for me. For as long as I can remember my mom and "gramma" dragged me to antique stores and flea markets, w/ my aunt and great aunts. If you ever just want to talk about antiques/collectibles PM me. Now that TV Land shows Bonanza and Gunsmoke, sometimes Hallmark Channel shows westerns, I can't watch enough. By 4 Now
