Is KOH-I-NOOR the most famous pencil manufacturer in Czech Republic? If so, what makes their pencils so special and famous? Could anyone please give me some information? Thanks in advance.

I was always intrigued by the Koh-I-Noor name when we stopped at the tram stop of that name. Now i know. Thanks for posting the web site Yvan-very interesting. :D

Without any doubt. Only Centropen can compete with Koh-i-noor but it is specialised in liquid refills (pens, felt-tips,...) and for a longtime it was a part of Koh-i-noor.
Tradition based on the idea mix pulverized graphit with clay (because of homogenization) and graphit mines in southern Bohemia.

And don't be confused. In Czech republic there are two famous Koh-i-noor companies - the second one.

    To Yvan & wer,

Thank you both very much for the information. I only knew Koh-I-Noor is very famous and their specific pencils have long been the must-buy souvenirs for tourists.

Some weeks ago I was going to buy some nice pastel pencils, and to my surprise, I found the Koh-I-Noor ones! I'd never thought I could buy them here in HK.

wer, I really appreciate your detailed and extra information. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Maybe it is because big part of Kooh-i-noor's production was removed to Nanjing (2004). A lot of illegal copies is also produced in China.

Thanx a lot, wer! Where did you find such information? Is there any website you know of for me to find out more about the removal? Would be grateful for your help. :D

I guess it's pretty much the reason that some of their products are in HK market. Hopefully the set I bought is not an illegal copy. There're a catalogue and a sort of certificate in the box.
